A question about : Glasgow companies to replace/renovate windows

I have an old Glasgow tenement flat with drafty, rattly old sash windows. I am looking to either renovate or replace them this summer - but I'm looking to avoid the dreaded double glazing salesmen!

Can anyone recommend any reliable firms in the Glasgow area that do good quality, reasonably priced window renovations and/or replacement double glazing?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Sammi22. Many thanks for the recommendation - I will give them a call and get a quote .
  • I have recently been in the exact same position and primarily on the recommendation of Sammi22 contacted Freelance and was a decision I have so far not regretted.
The quote that was provided was a third of the price of the nearest rival!!! However it was not the price that swayed me to choose Freelance but the enthusiasm that Martin showed how he would try and retain as much of the original styling of the old surrounds of the sash box window as possible. He also asked for no deposit and would collect paymnet only after we were 100% happy with the installation
After seeing the quality of the Windows in his workshop on Crow Road we signed up immediately and were told we could have the windows fitted within 2-3 Weeks, unlike 4-6 weeks from the bigger rivals.
The two workmen arrived and took 2.5 days to remove and replaced all the old windows with the new PVC windows and the entire timber frame build up. Not bad considering we are the third floor up and the windows looked very heavy indeed!!!
I would have not hesitation to recommend this company to friends and family.
  • Ideally I would have preferred to replace the sash windows with like for like or uPVC sash and case windows. However the cost factor was just too high to make it a valid option. (we were quoted between Ј1000 & Ј3000 per window x 8 windows)
If money is no option then go for sash and case, if you are on a budget then unfortunately Tilt & Turn seems to be the only economic option
  • I used Freelance window some years ago for a couple of Windows and would not use them again.
    There were indeed cheap.
Sometimes you do get what you pay for
  • Scotsbob, Freelance quoted Ј3,400 for the full job. Juliescot, why would you not use Freelance again?
  • What sort of horror stories? I am hoping they are not about the products in the long term or the after-care support
  • Try ventrolla they do sash window renovation and also make new sash windows
    ventrolla.co.uk
  • This is my first time replying on this board but felt my experiences totally contradict 'juliescot' and are similar to 'sammi'. Personally I couldn't recommend Freelance Windows highly enough as we got our windows replaced 3 months ago at almost 20% less than our other 2 quotes and delivery time was 10 days quicker. we even got a follow up email saying they'd launched a new website- freelancewindows.com - and asked if we were happy with the work and if there was anything outstanding to not hesitate contacting them. However, the main reason I would happily rate Freelance Windows is because the man we dealt with - Martin- was so positive, speedy and actually cleaned up after the job with his team! A first in my dealings with workmen. Thank you
  • thanks for advice, i used it to my advantage and saved money on a quick clean job - see below lolly8
  • A quick follow up to my previous notes, we have had a minor problems with the exterior sealing on the windows. The original sealer had used slightly too few sealant to make the seal look prettier but more likely to split which is what happened. Martin came round to look at the problem less than a week after advising him of the fault. He returned a few days later with some sealant and packing for the frames to improve the seal around the windows. A problem we never even noticed. Martin has promised that if we notice anything else, then give him a call and he will be round asap. This is one of the few times I actually believe that promise.
    Top marks to all involved
  • I always think that using a smaller company is better. You are not paying for large company profits and often find that the standard of service is better as its more personal. I used a small company to draught proof my old windows. I found them in yell, they are called JCW, the price was resonable and the work excellent. They will give free estimates and are very friendly.
  • I've been quoted Ј300 + vat per window (then Ј80 on top of that if sill replacement req) to renovate my sash and case windows (standard Glasgow tenement size).
    Does this sound about right?
