A question about : Friday 10th October

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of big stuff that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important title=Top

Today so far:
breakfast from stores
checked banking title=EEK!
checked for surveys

Also to do today:
finish business accounts for accountant
finish doorstop - all wool from stash and a donated brick so all free
go into town after 3pm when the parking is free
close ISA (only Ј32 in it at 0.5% interest!) and pay it to a debt
go to Mr. T's and STICK TO THE LIST!!
cheap Pasticcio for dinner guests tonight
keep an eye on surveys during the day
do NOT go on any sites where i might be tempted to spend money
do NOT go into any pet shops where I might be tempted to buy more puppy stuff for my new arrival in 10 days title=Big
Okay, that's my Friday folks. What are you doing today?

  • Morning! mine for today
    - parking just outside the town centre to avoid paying for car parks.
    - taking games sorted out the other day to Cex trade in store to get new game for hubby (yeah that's right, hubby, who acts more like a child than our son hahahahaaaa!), planning on this game costing me nothing in actual money.
    - heatings off as I am going to a friends for a coffee after town.
    - ring work to check for overtime shifts next week.
    - walked instead of drove to the school this morning.
oh and yesterday was technically a NSD because I borrowed my neighbours bus ticket and paid the kids babysitter using cash4clothes cash made, happy days!
  • Morning All
Big weekend waves to Ziggy, StichingWitch, & Roxy kitten & everyone else who rolls up
Today I am doing early prep for tonight's fish pie, & also cooking enough spuds to roll into tommorows menu. One of the American finance bloggers I follow was talking about cooking for a whole month in one day. So may not be quite that organised
Checked banking. Walked to a different shop to save 50p on cheese.
Some how managed to get all our wet clothing & shoes (almost) dry after an utter soaking on the way home from school yesterday. Without putting the heating on. So that was a saving.
Am not feeling amaze balls today as had a very upset stomach around 1am so not much sleep and tum still not feeling completely happy. Never mind the weekends in sight!
    Bye for now.

  • Morning All!!
Happy Friday! Can actually say this for once as I have a rare weekend off!! Yay!!
Not a great deal from me today, but here goes:
Worked night shift last night - claimed as overtime
Took OH's car to work, inflated tyres, cleaned inside and out, checked and topped up fluid levels etc.
Today will be a NSD as will spend morning tucked up in bed and will be having chicken fajitas from stores tonight for dinner!
    Check banking
Ring parents after 7pm on free calls - always a long chat!!
Keep heating turned off - jumpers on instead!!
Exercise today will be a lovely run in the crisp sunshine! Bliss!!
Think that's about it from me folks - hope you have a great weekend - probably won't have time to post as have loads of exciting (free) stuff planned (fundraising run, time with OH, white water rafting for Brither in law's birthday and seeing Mam and Dad!! Phew!)
    Lots of love,
    Shoot xxx
  • Morning all,
Fab autumn sunshine here today & I've just looked on the calendar & realised it won't be too long before our lovely week's holiday down in Wiltshire......lots to do before then!
    Today's frugal activity:
*Peeled about a billion more little onions for pickling. I've already done one batch but had so many left over, I decided to do another load, then use the rest in stews.
    *Clean house using minimal products.
*Load washer & set timer for Economy 7 wash overnight as forecast looks like tomorrow might be a good free drying day.
*Wrote quick meal plan using mostly what we have in the freezer as Mr f volunteered to go to Aldi on his way home. Wrote shopping list.
*Used extra pasta cooked last night to make a pasta bake for the freezer. Usefully used up the last of the aubergine crop, courgette, ham, cheese remnants & other bits & bobs nearing their end in the fridge.
*Brought 3 chilli plants indoors to overwinter them. That'll be a free earlier start next year for our chilli crop.
Project "Prepare for Winter" jobs today will be to 1) Find winter clothes bag, unpack it & hang, while also packing away my summer stuff. 2)Investigate a corner unit in the conservatory which I don't think I've even opened this year. Clear it out & use for stuff which shouldn't be in the pantry to make more room for our winter stores. 3)Carry on knitting my nice warm socks 4)Talk Mr f into helping me with some serious Pantry Tetris so I can fit in all the jars of pickles, chutney, jams, etc, I've made this year. I'm not very tall & have to stand on a stool even to reach the back of the lowest shelf.
OK......off upstairs to turn out that clothes bag.....am on my own so really hope no spiders.
Stitchy - what a great use for a brick! I have a whole pile of them, so must think more creatively........or actually get around to making a cold-frame.
    Enjoy your Fridays,
    F x
  • Hello all
Was feeling a bit downhearted today as we are fast running out of funds in our "spending account", mainly due to larger than usual petrol spends (OH went for an interview a long drive away - he didn't get the job either!). And it is a way to go until payday - 13 more days.
But now I have read yesterdays and todays posts I am feeling more positive. I think the solution is to start selling stuff again - and boy do I have lots of stuff to sell. Have sold all the big things we didn't really need but have lots of toys/clothes/books and other such things stashed away.
So today I am at work, earning not spending. Soup from freezer for lunch and sausages also from freezer to have with mash later.
OH has fixed the clothes airer - he is a DIY hero these days.
Later I'm going to get some stuff out of the shed and start getting ready for a big push on selling.
Still haven't had the heating on - going to see if we can last until November. May be spending quite a lot of time in bed with a hot water bottle......
And finally - we also have a pile of bricks - could there be a Christmas present idea here (I won't be posting them though
    Best wishes x

  • Hello
    So far today I have:
Got OH to help with the housework as it is his fussy relative who is visiting
    Tidied garden
NSD - for me anyway. OH has bought an expensive 'something' but has sold something else in order to pay for it.
Taken more items to sales unit to replace those that have sold
All meals from ingredients that we already have in.
    Still to do:
More housework All done now - I think
Cook supper Nachos with leftover chilli - yum
Sort fridge Not done this yet
Walk dog OH did this while I cleaned the bathrooms
Make shopping list for the weekend Done, but a few more things to check
    Happy Friday everyone
  • *Re-juvenated a lumpy pillow by taking it apart trying to plump up the stuffing and then sewing on a thick tired-looking hand towel to act as a cushion between my head and the remaining lumpiness.
  • Everything on my list achieved except for clearing out that cupboard. Will do it tomorrow.
More money saving: Made a big jugful of lentil soup using ham stock I had in the freezer & a parmesan rind I'd been saving for just such an occasion. It's yummy, & a proper rib-sticker, so will be filling.
Even more money saving: Mr f got the weekly shopping in under budget, despite buying a couple of extra items. Budget was Ј35. He spent Ј27. (Very pleased with himself) Good old Aldi.
And......still no heating on. Would ideally like to go to Nov, except for bathroom towel radiator.
    Feeling motivated.
