  • Well I'll christen this new thread then
    Saw J&J last night 6.5/10
Pleasant and somewhat amusing in parts but nothing really to shout home about.
A few things left "in the air" and rather odd how it ended.
Could be considered boring - definitely snoring from a couple of members of the audience.
Would have been a little disappointed if I'd paid to see it.
  • saw J&J last night too, and it was better than expected, seeing as i had no idea who Julia Child was, or have never heard about the blogger
Definitely no snoring in the cinema i was in, and the chatter coming out, was most people were pleasantly surprised, with alot of people saying its the best film theyve seen in a while through SFF
I also think the ending was a bit up in the air
    Flea
  • I saw it too. I agree about being 'up in the air' I also think that it could have been made a bit shorter. It was funny but also so long and boring in parts. Nice film though. Probably fogotten about if it doesn't get Oscar acclaim.
  • If anyone is signed up to receive e-mails from Odeon then look in your in-box for a voucher that gives 25% off one ticket for any film, Monday - Friday between 7th - 25th September. Not on-line - you need to bring the voucher to the box-office.
Had a look round the website and can't find this offer so presume it's specific to people who have signed up.
  • Hopefully this should give you the link to the 25% off but can't be used with any other offer (Orange weds etc)

  • I saw J&J in Birmingham tonight , the highlight for me was Meryl Streeps performance, she was excellent. I found the film quite long and laborious in parts and it could have been a lot shorter. The ending was very disappointing, there was a script at the end that told you what happened to the characters, but I would have like to have seen the outcomes rather than read about them.
  • Saw J&J wondered how the blogger ever became a writer it was dire. No point or link between the two stories, of which only the tv cooks one was even faintly interesting.
  • I saw J&J last night and, surprisingly, I loved it! I do agree that it was long at some points and I did not think too much of the blogger but I thought both Meryl Streep and Amy Adams were fantastic. It was the best freebie movie I have seen in a long while.
There was a lot of laughter in my screening when the last line of the text in the end (the one related to the book written by the blogger) came up.
  • Anyone else seen Away We Go yet?
  • I saw away we go last night, loved it, Maggia Gyllanhalls performance was the highlight for me
  • I saw it too last night. I thought it was funny in parts and quite a meaningful film but my husband hated it. It seemed to be a bit slow too and I agree Maggie was great - I think she is one of them actresses that should be alot more famous than what she is.
  • Yes, Julie and Julia was quite good - I went knowing absolutely nothing about it - thought it was another Nora Ephron romcom! It does get very slow for the final half-hour, and Meryl Streep is very Marmite though - such a silly (if accurate) accent.
Now, to something more important. Can someone please sort out the regular free film code thread? We've had stand-up, ballet, opera, and theatre there recently, which some people have complained about. But now we're starting to get stuff concerning sff Australia??!!
WTF?! I quote from our glorious website banner - "UK consumer revenge". Soon we'll all be swamped by even more useless notifications.
    Boo hiss.
  • I agree that the Aussie film showings are unnecessary on that thread!
  • saw J&J last night, for free
was pleasantly surprised I hadnt even heard of it
made me hungry & want to try the dishes, esp the caramel cake at start YUM!
MY friend enjoyed it toO, as she's into cooking & now I want to blog
    thanks to SFF
tho the ending wasnt quite what i expected
  • Saw J&J in Middlesbrough on Monday night and the last 40 minutes were a farce. The movie "slipped" so we mostly had legs and feet for 10 minutes (could see that Meryl Street walked on a box when meeting her editor at the train station, to make her seem mega tall). Film was then adjusted and we had heads and the sound mics (boom poles?)
  • Saw J&J night night. My mum enjoyed it, even though she didnt have a clue what we were seeing. I thought it was ok but agree with everyone else in the thought that it was way too long. The last 40 mins could def been cut down.
