A question about : flood advise....
having been recently flooded , we are now staying in a hotel , we have been there now for 4 weeks , my insurers halifax are now saying that they want us out of the hotel as they can no longer fund it , yet in my policy it states that in such a case we are covered for alternative accommation up to the value of Ј20.000 .
We have been offered alternative rented accommodation all of which have been unsuitable , and because of this halifax , now have stated that we have to leave the hotel on monday , and they would offer us 6 months rent ( a rough figure of Ј3600 was mentioned ) and to sort ourselves out .
If we had to come home we have no bathroom or kitchen facilities , so things would be difficult , as there are 5 of us , me , wife ,2 young children and a baby .
If anyone could offer and any advise as to where we stand with the accommodation , i.e. can they make us leave the hotel ? and if so what type of monies would be deamed as acceptable to live on for upto 6 months.

- Could you rent a property for Ј600 a month in your area? I suspect you could if this is South Yorks we are talking about.
What has been wrong with the suggested alternative properties?
The policy cover may state up to Ј20k cover but it does not mean they will put you up at the Ritz for a month. Ј20k would have to cover a year or more for a full house rebuild so they are working your expenses pro-rata.
Finally, do you not fancy getting out of the hotel and into a proper house for 6 months or so. I travel a lot with work and hotel living is fine for a week or less but I would hate to do it for any longer. - Just had a look at the Halifax site but could not find a link to the full policy wording.
I suspect it will have a clause like the clause 11 on page 36 of this More Than home insurance policy wording.

The clause effectively states they will pay "the reasonable additional costs of comparable accomodation incurred".
If you had a 3 bed semi, they will look to rent you (or give you the money to do so) a 3 bed semi. The hotel really is just an emergency stop gap.
