• We are first time parents due in April and to save money I've been trawling local selling sites and eBay for clothes, toys etc got a brand new playmat worth Ј45 for Ј5 the other day.
  Join all the parent and baby clubs you possibly can, all will give you money off vouchers and some give samples.bounty and Emma's diary do vouchers for freebie packs you pick up from boots or argos aswell with samples and money off vouchers.
  We have bought some bits brand new when offers have been on but babies get so little use out of things we weren't bothered about everything being brand new the most important things to us are the cot and pushchair and car seat but everyone has different priorities.
  Websites like online4baby are good for cheaper prices of mainstream products.
  Were also going to use cloth nappies to save money, depending on the brand you use you could kit yourself out for around Ј100 and would potentially save thousands as they can be reused on further children afterwards.
  Shops regularly have baby events so it's worth keeping an eye out for them aswell. Aldi and asda are my favourite ones and the next ones are normally around February time.poundland also had a lot of good babb stuff in recently.
  Use entitledto website to work out if you'll be able to claim anything once baby is here and depending on your incomes you may get child benefit aswell but I no for high earners they tax you more to claim it back.
  Ask around friends and family who have had babies and see if anyone has anything they could pass into you also check out your local charity shops. Our Moses basket and stand came from one for Ј6.

• Don't buy too many clothes for baby...you will receive lots as gifts.
  Use aldi nappies they are as good as pampers.
  Think carefully about the pram you get...will it fit in your car or be easy to get on a bus?
  Join any mother and baby groups locally, its often a life line to new parents, you can make new friends in the same boat.
  New babies don't need expensive things....a second hand cot, pram,,Moses basket will be fine if you can't afford new, scour eBay, frecycle and local adverts.

  or set up a group of your own...
• Contact your local Sure Start centre as they will have a lot of information about local groups, contacts at benefits offices that are easier to get in touch with etc.
  They should also have contact details for the person within the local authority that deals with nursery/day are places within the city.
