A question about : Family trip to London

Hi.
I'm trying to book a few nights in London for 2 adults aNd 2 kids. Has anyone stayed in or around London for a reasonable price that would recommend somewhere please? It does need to be in the holidays so I know I will pay much more than normal 😕
Thanks for your help money savers 😀

  • That's a very broad question.
It really depends on what you call a "reasonable price" and what standard of accommodation you have in mind. There are a few thousand hotels in and around London from hostels to 5 star luxury. The further out of the centre you stop then (generally) the cheaper it will be but that depends on what you are planning on doing while you are there.
  • I would start by looking at premier inns (or travelodge- although personally I hate travelodge!)
If you want central-try county hall, Waterloo, Leicester sq etc
If you want cheaper but accessible -Stratford is great. Big, new, clean, by Westfield for cheap meals/snacks to take out for day and great rail/tube links. It is opposite olympic park so potentially great views too.
  • It depends how far out you are happy to be. Radlett is on the main line into London and it takes around 35 mins into London. Get off at Blackfriars for example for the Eye and the Thames boats. The Redlion in Radlett is a nice pub and is directly across from the station. Opposite is a Prezzo, (get the vouchers!) there is a nice Indian and the pub itself does reasonably good food. if you have a breakfast you can probably get away with snack for lunch to keep costs down. Getting the train in will entitle you to the 2 for 1 prices on loads of attractions.
It is worth a look not sure how much they charge for a room sleeping more than two using a sofa bed, but a double is Ј85 per night inc breakfast. Fre secure parking too.

  • OP, if you are looking for budget accomodation, have a look at Travelodge or Premier Inn family rooms (kids eat breakfast for free at both if they have a restaurant/cafe so works out good value for a family of 4). You can save by avoiding a Saturday night stay as this is usually the most expensive rate. central London rooms are usually more expensive than staying on the outskirts. If you can travel in by train (you can also use your train tickets for the 2for 1 London attraction offers) or coach, you will have more hotel choice and save on parking charges. If you need to travel in via car look at staying on the outskirts or parking up at a tube station (paid parking) and continuing on into the centre by tube. The cheapest train fares are usually released 12 weeks in advance and it may be worth buying a friends and family rail card for the savings if you are coming from a distance.
There is a new Travelodge opening in Wembley High Road that has some good rates for family rooms in the May school holidays (make sure it is Wembley High Road TL, not the Wembley TL one). It is beside the Wembley central bakerloo line and train station. 35 minute direct journey to Waterloo for the Thames embankment, London Eye, Houses Of Parliament, Big Ben etc. Few minutes less of a direct journey to Charing Cross for National Art Gallery, Whitehall to have photos beside the Queens mounted guard, old no 15 red routemaster bus to Tower Of London goes from there to the Tower Of London past a lot of London landmarks, so a cheap bus tour as you can use Oyster card/contactless bank card or Travel card on it and kids aged 10 and under travel free on all London transport.
  • Totally depends where you need to visit in London and how near you want to be to those places, so you need to be more specific. Staying further out is cheaper and will be fine as long as you're prepared to spend an hour or more travelling to central London each day.
  • It's not a small place, and, as was said above, there are thousands of hotels, and without any guidance as to your budget, and where you arrive (airport? rail? road?), and where you want to go whilst you're there...
