A question about : e.on Fixonline 8

Quite a lot of us in here are on the rather well-priced e.on Fixonline 8 tariff which finishes on 1 July.

There's no way I'll be staying with e.on on any of the tariffs they're presently offering us, so I'm starting actively to look around to switch - and with the cashbacks on offer for switching to another company e.on are going to lose a lot of customers. The cashback will more than cover any cancellation fee.

The question for the e.on company representative is whether they're aware of the number of customers they're likely to lose, whether that bothers them, and whether they're going to come up with a decent fixed/capped rate that's going to attract us to stay.

Best answers:

  • Why is there a cancellation fee after 1 July? Surely it ends with the fixed rate?
  • Also remember that if you move before the end of FOL v8 period you will not get the final bill discounted as well as the cancellation fee. This needs to be accounted for.
  • Bear in mind there is only really websaver 11 worth moving too at mo and you have to consider Scottish power, Npower, EDF and Eon's current online tariffs are currently a lot less competitive than the fprmer versions of these comapnies online tariffs , last time all the power co's did this was between sept and nov 2010, just before all power co's put prices up, so onlyu option you've got is to get on websaver 11 now, I to am on Fix Online 8 at the mo, and it is exceptionally unlikely (read- not gonna happen!) that Eon will put out a fixed rate that will be as competitigve as Fix Online 8. It will not bother those that decide tariff and pricing options for Eon, as they are only acting in line with the rest of competitors and current market place.
  • My Eon Fixonline7 ends tomorrow and I have sadly taken the decision to leave Eon and move to BG Websaver 11 - a bit of a shame as I have found the service from Eon to be good and think the online account management to be great.
At the end of the day it all came down to cash and the fact we live on a newish development and are subject an Independent Gas Transporter charge - the combination of Eon's higher rates and Ј42 IGT charge (compared to lower British Gas rates and no IGT charge) meant I did the swap to BG.
If it hadn't been for the IGT charge I may have even stayed with Eon, despite their slightly higher rates, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Goodbye Eon! The last two years have been great but I feel compelled to leave now........and hope, for your sake, that not too many other Eon customers feel the same.....
  • Is the consensus that BG's websaver is likely the best deal available once fixonline 8 goes?
I'll echo the sentiment that it's a bit of a shame to switch as I've nothing negative to say about eon and the online experience is far better than most. Sadly with a circa Ј1200 annual spend I can't bring myself to take a big percentage hit without trying to minimise it!
  • What I would consider is - will BG Websaver 11 still be available mid june when you can apply to another supplier and leave Eon after 1st July so no cancellation charge (or change now and suck it up that websaver 11 is dearer than fix online 8, but cheaper than other alternatives, and accept you'll have a Ј30 early term charge from Eon.), I would suggest websaver 11 will be withdrawn in the next 2-3 weeks, may be sooner, given that Eon, Npower, Scottish Power and EDF have all pulled last version of their online tariff (Eon Save Online 4/5/6, Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 12/13, Npower Sign Online 21 and EDF Online Saver 9), and current versions (Eon Save Online 7, Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 11, Npower Sign Online 21, EDF Online Saver 12) are considerably less competitively priced, so would suggest BG will almost certainly follow suit at some point very soon. As I mention earlier in this thread, the last time this sort of acttivity occured with the power company's tariffs was at the end of last year just before they all announced they would increase prices, and as reported on this website, there is an exceptionaly good chance that in the not to distanmt future.
  • Comparison of payable Tier 2 rates:
    E.On FixOnline 8 inc DD6%, DF2%, OL18.7% and VAT@5%
    Electricity 7.85p
    Gas 2.3151p
    E.On SaveOnline 7 inc DD6%, DF2% and VAT@5%
    Electricity 9.55p = 21.65% increase
    Gas 2.66p = 14.89% increase
    E.On Price Protection April 2013 inc DD6%, DF2% and VAT@5%
    Electricity 11.5437 = 47% increase
    Gas 3.109554 = 34.316% increase
Hope the new condensing boiler makes a difference.
  • Fixonline 8 costs me around Ј1300 pa at present. Ј1480 with Websaver 11 is the cheapest replacement, but that's not fixed or capped and is likely to increase.
Cheapest fix until May 2012 is npower at Ј1680, but Scottish Power have a fix until January 2014 for Ј1850. Decisions, decisions.
Come on eon - give us something worth staying for, otherwise we're off!
  • Another fixonline 8 customer here also looking to switch supplier. Pity as I have had good service over the years with Eon. If Eon came up with a competitive alternative I would stay with them.
  • I'm one of those voting with my feet too. My EOn Fixonline has just ended and I've already initiated the transfer to an EDF fixed tariff. The increase in cost is going to hurt, but not as much as staying with EOn. Both EOn and EDF have assured me the transfer will not be initiated for a couple of days even though I started it a week or so ago. So, should still get my discount on my final bill for Fixonline 7.
Got about a month on EOn's energyonline tariff, but will just have to take the hit on that - at least there's no penalty for leaving!
I'm with others here - good company EOn, but price is the biggest consideration.
  • I too am a longstanding E.On customer, with my FOL V7 finishing today. Was considering switching to Save Online 7 until I realised that this is not a fixed price tariff.
Have used the comparison sites and the only way to go appears to be with nPower Go Fix 5. So that's what I am going to do, unless E.On come up with something very soon.
  • Unlikely Eon will introduce anything like that which a few of you are appealing for, generally Eon's current range of products is in line with the market place (when you take into consideration there is no such thing as THE cheapest company) and given prices are almost certainly going to go up very soon, definitely will not be a fixed rate (at a competitive rate anyway) and capped deals with any p[ower co are always an insurance policy high cost now on bets that prices will go up in the future thus levelling your current high rate on a cap with an increase. remember if looking to leave Eon before normal bil period, you will not get discount so put reads in to Eon site and request bill early so your bill produced and will only have about 6 weeks consumption on final bill that will not be eligible for discount.
  • Having read the info about the E.On bill when you leave them, having no discount, I have just done the following:-
    o Taken meter readings
    o Submitted them to E.On
    o Requested a bill
Hopefully this will mean that I get discount for the period from my last bill (21st March) to today.
