A question about : Edinburgh-Glasgow trains off-peak times?

My husband and I need to get to the Beatson Oncology Centre (off of Great Western Road in between Glasgow Uni and Strathclyde Uni) from Edinburgh. He doesn't want to drive (fair enough!) so we're getting a train. Our appointment is at 14.45 and he thinks that we'll be able to squeeze back to Edinburgh on an off-peak train but I don't think we'll make it.

Any thoughts?

Best answers:

  • Actually, if someone could just let me know what the off-peak evening times are, that would be helpful. I can't find it on the ScotRail website. I'm assuming they're something like 4:30 to 6 but would like to know for sure.
  • 16.30 is the last train from Glasgow Off-Peak to 18.30 IIRC. Depending on the tlength you are there you should make it- just about!
  • just had a quick look at the trainline you could get the train from Eh at 13.00 and be at Queen st at 13.49 that would give you just under an hour to get up to the Western. The last off peak rtn is 16.30 it would be Ј21.70 each hth
  • Thank you! That helps a lot. I don't think we'll be able to make an off-peak return given that timescale. Even if the doc is a little bit late (which seems pretty likely at that time of day!) we'd be hard pressed to get back for 16.30. Oh well, just have to stump up the extra cash and move on!
  • With an off-peak ticket you have to travel after 09:15 in the morning and cannot travel between 16:42 and 18:20 in or out of the cities.
  • There are cheap tics by cross country 1.90 each way but only on cross country service from central random times but I think there is one just after 5
