Why register as disabled?

A question about : Why register as disabled?

I read with interest the sticky on what the definition of disabled is, but I wonder what are the benefits of registering as disabled for older, retired people.

My wife, aged 78, broke her neck l6 months ago, leaving her with extremely limited movement in her right arm, shoulder and leg. Apart from medical attention (Physiotherapy) and attendence allowance, we get no help. I am 81 and get no carers allowance and because we have some savings, we have to pay a cleaner, gardener and handyman.

What counts as disability?

A question about : What counts as disability?

Hope no one minds but it struck me that we needed this thread. Since 1995 when the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) came into being, whether or not someone 'counts' as being a disabled person tends to be decided by the legal definition of disability in the DDA, the following information is cut and pasted from here, I've highlighted the important bits (IMHO) in red.

All advise I give is my own personal opinion based on my knowledge of the benefit and obviously not official government guidance.

Easy To Use Mobile Phones

A question about : Easy To Use Mobile Phones

For anyone who finds a standard mobile phone way too complicated there are alternatives. The website below has details of a number of phones that are suitable for those of us who just can't get to grips with all those little buttons, bleeps and flashing lights:

https://www.matobmobile.co.uk/

One of the models has just 5 buttons and no screen to read. It can just be used for making and receiving calls. Bliss!

(It may be possible to get these phones cheaper elsewhere.)

Disabled Steam Generator Ironing board

A question about : Disabled Steam Generator Ironing board

This post is spread across other sections of the website as it benefits able bodied folk and disabled.
There are many Steam generator ironing boards which are height adjustable, but which are the best to use while sitting? Using an ironing board while seated, the board has to be rock solid and not too long. The slightest wobble is enough to put the user off. Although many ironing boards allow for height adjustment, I'm sure they all haven't taken into consideration specific use by the disabled.
