A question about : DFW running club mark 2!! ALL ARE WELCOME!!!

Hi one and all!! Please find below the original introduction to the original DFW running club.

Due to length we have had to start afresh but Fermi has agreed to post a link so the wealth of information that was avaialble for new comers and experienced runners alike doesn't get lost.

Please please, if you are new to running, don't be put off by technical jargon, We ALWAYS without exception welcome new comers and will give you all the support you need!!

And to the regulars, keep that help support and information coming guys! you're all stars.

At the request of several members here on the DFW board, I have pleasure in starting the Debt Free Wannabe Running Club! The idea being that we all have goals we wish to reach, some being financial, others being weight loss, getting fit etc.

So heres the place to get the motivation to do it!!title=Jumping

Firstly, Let us know what your goal is, Ie running a half marathon, being able to run for half hour without stopping, doing 30 sit ups etc then we can share progress reports, any training hints and tips and generally get a kick up the proverbial to get off the sofa and go do it!!!title=ROTFL
(goodness knows i need a boot right now so could be accused of being slightly self indulgent with the thread!title=Thanks, )

If there are enough people we could even do an evening or a sunday run.

We all know Gyms are/can be Mega expensive so here's the cheaper option and you'll get loads of support from us all.

So who's in?!title=Have

Have fun

  • Well i went out for a run, not been out since tuesday.
5k in just over 29mins, a bit poor really but legs were heavy and a nice head wind for half of it.
    Was nice to get out..
  • I've still got blisters
  • I started posting in the original thread last year, I was just running a mile at that point, being new to running. Then at the end of November, I had my eyes lasered and whilst I can now see, I couldn't do any sweat inducing exercise for 2 weeks! Then I had a nasty cold that turned into a chest infection...
Alas, I am fairly back to normal now, and have started training again.
Today I ran 1k, at a slower pace than usual and it took me 7 minutes.
Ooh and I used the new Nike plus that I got for xmas!
  • bexter, the main thing is that you have started again! That 1k will soon be 2.....and before you know it, 5k or 10k........
Making a start is the hardest thing - now you have done that, the rest is eeeeeasy!!!!!
  • The kitchen is progressing well..
Here is the little one enjoying a little time inside the unit..
  • Ahhhh and we are refreshed...and shiny and new
Me and Rich have been out for beer and eaten sausage and chips and are now relaxing for an early night before our run tomorrow! I'll post our times as soon as we know
Happy running everyone - anybody lurking - get posting and get running!
  • Excellent pre-race preparation there, becky!
Good luck for tomorrow - I look foward to reading some fantabulous results!
  • Yeah..
    All the best with 2morrow.
  • Good luck for tomorrow Rich & Becky! Fingers crossed the wind isn't force 10.
I missed all of the discussions about the old thread being closed down and a new one started up and tbh I don't really care where it is as long as people still use it to share running news and information.
Anyway, I thought I would thrill you with my tales of marathon training from this morning's session. We ran for 2h 20mins (1h10m out and 1h10m back). It was a beautiful sunny morning and I had expected heavy rain so the pleasant weather was a lovely surprise. I don't have a Garmin but my running partner does so when we got back she said we had run 14.95 miles (which is 15 in my book any day ) So I was very pleased, considering it is only week 2 of my proper training. (Running sort of fell by the wayside through December )
Unfortunately OH's calf is no better. Physio this morning was inconclusive but he has some stretching exercises to try out. It didn't help that we went to the park this afternoon and there was a Cross Country meet on. He is getting soooo frustrated with it.
Alias - you have the same kitchen as me! (But I don't have such a cute accessory.)
  • hmm the people using the garmin. does it keep signal in the case if its on and do you put it in a plastic bag. I have one although I dont yet run long enough to warrant using it.
    Thanks
  • That is excellent running chick
KYCU - my garmin keeps its signal without a problem - I just strap it on my wrist and away I go!
Happy running today everyone - another forced hobble-day for me......bah.
  • WOW go chick what a great run - my first 14 was 2:20 so thats some pace you've put on there
Oooo getting excited now - Rich is picking me up in a short while so I suppose I better go find my trainers...
    Happy running all!
  • good luck you two!
  • Hi all, I did join on the other thread, but kinda trailed off posting back then I was just starting to run on the treadmill for about 20-25 mins, now I've started getting serious lol I've signed up for the Plymouth Half Marathon on 24th May, and started running outside.
This week I've just been running when I had time, about a mile each time, I start my proper training as from tomorrow
Does this seem okay to you all as a first week?
    M ~ Jog 1 mile
    T ~ Rest
    W ~ Jog 1 mile
    T ~ Rest
    F ~ Jog 1 mile
    S ~ Rest
    S ~ Rest
I plan on adding a mile on each week, and after a few weeks, adding an extra day running. I'm also going to the gym 3 times a week, either doing interval training on the treadmill, a body combat class or having a swim.
I value your collective expert opinion.
  • Morning campers...
Seeing is im in London at the moment and dont have any hills to face i decided to put in a 5 mile stint.
I liked the flat but OMG dogs, cars, people and pools of vomit to dodge, dont get that in the sticks i tell you. .
    So to conclude = 5m Flat = 41m 51s
    Good runnin all .
And congrats on your DF Day yesterday raphael
  • Morning
I have just starting training properly after a long break,
my first aim is to complete a local 5k road race without walking, then continue my training to build up to a 10k in september (hoping to do this in under an hour)
    Any hints/tips on training appreciated
    thanks
  • Raphael - that looks a good start to me - You have 4 months or so to build up to half marathon level - it is certainly more than achievable, and getting those first few jogs under your belt is the start of something fab!
Ukevas - excellent distance and time even considering the obstacles! In the sticks we have roadkill and overflowing ditches to dodge though, so there is always something!
Chris - Rich is our resident running guru, and he is racing this morning, but when he gets back he will be happy to tell you what he thinks you should do! In readiness for that, any info on what your current level of fitness is, how far you can currently go without stopping, etc would be helpful.
    Welcome aboard!
  • Hi all!
    Can I join?
I did a 5k and 10k last year and plan to do a couple of 5ks and 10ks this year too. I aim to do 5k in under 30 mins and 10k in under 1hr 15. Havent been out running since before xmas but will start again next week starting with 3k for this week and building myself up to 5. I work 4 eves a week and sundays but I WILL go out:
    Tuesday eve
    Fri am
    Sun am
Will report back with times etc
  • *looks round nervously, decides as its a new thread to just join in*
    Hi,
I am Buffy, normally to found on the sofa, with pringles and chocolate soon to be found pounding the pavements...
Last year I walked a Race for life,I really enjoyed it and do walk a fair bit since I can't drive(!)
I definitely want to RUN a 5KM this year and *maybe* a ten km......
I am using a very easy plan, involving walking and then in a fortnight some running.
In eight weeks I will assess my progress and decide whether to run a 10km.
I don't think I'll ever be very fast(think Phoebe in friends) but I do want to be fit!
    hope that is ok
    Cheers
    Buffyxx
