A question about : Buying currency with Credit Card – surcharges?

Need to buy some USD and wondered whether all the distributors charge a Credit Card surcharge? I’ve tried a couple and they seem to be between 2 and 3%.

Am I wasting my time trying to find one who does not have a credit card surcharge?

I have some Costa Rican Colones that I would like to exchange for either pounds or Euro's. I've looked online everywhere I can think of and cannot find anywhere that will take them! Except for two places in London but I live in South Yorkshire! Advice appreciated.

My sister has sent me money from abroad through western union, but the problem is i don't have my passport at the moment or any photo ID as i lost all my identification documents last week but i do have a copy of the passport. How can i collect the money? Or can i ask western union to transfer the money to my bank account without need a passport?

I am executor to my father's estate. One of my brothers, due a 1/3 share of the estate, lives in the US (and has dual US / British citizenship).
This week I sent a test payment of Ј50 to ensure that I had his account details entered correctly. The sending agent sent $76. My brother's bank received $56.

I'm going on holiday to India and have to pay the balance for my accommodation when I get there in cash. They'll accept pounds, dollars, euros and rupees. Can anyone figure out what's the best deal for me, given if I pay in anything other than pounds I'll need to exchange before I go...? It's about Ј500 worth.I was assuming pounds is most convenient but if it's stronger than the euro...does that make more sense?! Thanks for any help
