A question about : (CLOSED) FREE 1 Hour WiFi Internet

I picked up a voucher for free 1 hour internet at Starbucks coffee shop for your laptop and pda. Does not have expire date, but not sure if it will be printed any longer. On T-mobile website they advertise that it will be in several newpapers.

I got one from Metro free paper printed on 16/11/04

Good luck!

  • Hi,
this is speculative however interesting....a friend did a survey recently for work using a wireless network receiver, a gprs device and a netstumbler package. He drove around aylesbury, amsterdam and berlin, what he found was that approximately 66% of all wireless networks were un-protected i.e. anyone with a wireless receiver (centrino laptop for example) and running the standard dhcp protocol could use the wireless networks. Most of the time there was a wireless network within a few metres of each other.
The upshot of this is that if you would like wireless connectivity with your laptop the likelyhood is that you could sit in your car with your laptop and struggle NOT to get connected to the internet via someone else's connection.
The legality of this is questionable however it is ridiculously simple and a massive security risk.

  • does that in english mean its a dodgy idea?
  • it means free internet- doesn't cost anyone- it's just like having a "Home network"...
  • fair enough.
  • I agree with free Hot spots, and have one unsecured access in my neibourghood, but if you need to see at the cafe and don't look stupid if you cannot pick up one in the area. I did pay twice to T-mobile, had to meet with clients, and picked up 2 vouchers. So will save Ј10 for 2 vouchers.
