A question about : Claim what you are owed.

As HR Admin (Clerk), i have noticed that a lot of soldiers, do not try or do not know how to claim what they are owed.

Incidental Allowance, £5 UK and £10 Overseas per 24 hrs for when on course. Even if the course was a few months back then still bang the claim in, as long as you can prove you went on course.

LSA, when you are away for 9 days or more, starting @ £6.38, depending what level you are on. Check to see if you total is correct as you might be owed some days.

There is also Day subsistance and Night subsistance for when you are put up in a hotel, for courses, posting etc.

The above is only a brief guidance and you should check with your Unit HR Admin. I'm not to sure if the above applies with RAF/RN, but i'm sure someone will help me out.

  • The problem with the Claim system is that people do not really Know what they are entitled too, With unhelpful Admin Staff (at my present location) doesn't really do much to make people want to claim.
1 quick example, I have just put in a claim for a AT exped Overseas on which i was an instructor.
I have been told you can't now claim for this but you can claim for that.
You must pay me back the Ј100 put in a new claim then we'll give you Ј110,
I'm not really bothered about the extra tenner but must I really repay the 100 or is there a way to sort out the paper work.
  • It doesnt help that JPA is such a pain in the a@@!! Everything used to be so much easier when the PSF staff could direct you...JPA is just a nightmare and often mucks up what I'm entitled to anyway!
  • Don't forget HDT or RPOD as it used to be called. Unfortunately our unit have "lost" 3 HDT claims and we are now waiting for the 4th to get processed. Taken 2 years so should get a nice amount back!
And one for the guys (or girls) who have a spouse who is registered as a disabled dependant. I am disabled and registered with my hubby's MCM div as such. We only just found out that we are entitled to a 25% discount on our CILOCT, backdated to the date I was registered disabled. We had to provide proof (I gave a photocopy of a letter confirming DLA) and, as I was disabled before we got married, we are waiting for 7 years worth of rebates back.
  • Most allowances have been harmonised across the Serivces; that's part of what the J in JPA was about. People should have been issued the Guide to Allowances booklet, which is a noddy guide to the sort of thing you are allowed to claim for. If you've not seen it, there's a copy at the RAF Community website, available here. The guide will point you to the relevant section in the JSP explaining the detail of eligibility etc for any given allowance. Luckily the rafcom site also has a copy of the JSP for reference, here. Looking at the refcom site, I see they've also added a PDF of a series of posters outlining the allowances available in various areas, here.
  • Interesting fact I heard about the other day (from a 1*) was that the introduction of JPA is saving the military about a third in its expenditure for allowances, subsistance etc.
Basically, this has occured because many people no longer understand what they are entitled to claim for and hence do not claim.
  • What if I go away (I'm an attached arm) to do centralised MATTs trg, can I claim FIA for that?
  • We have just moved on posting OH tried to find out what he could claim for 2adults 4kids but all you get told is to go on to JPA but surely if you don't know what to claim for how does that help, things change but you only seem to find out by word of mouth.
  • Need to take a look at
JSP 752: Tri-Service Regulations for Allowances
    AO.
  • Well i have to say i think JPA is pretty good......i use it alot as i'm claiming at least twice a month every month.
the things our found that you can claim for and are all allowed!!!!
IE does NOT need reciepts as long as its not over 5 quid (our UAO did go through a faze of making us fill out a form but that got binned because it was masses of paper work)
if your away for more than 21 days from your parent unit and your staying in hotels then you are entitled to that same level of accom as back in camp (so as a senior rank you can have your own room)
You must provide reciepts for DS however you can claim upto a max of £4.50 per meal by self certifying for places that do not do reciepts (such as vending machines)
Again if using DS and you don't spend your full entitlment one day (i believe is £24.52 at the moment) you can carry over the remaining for the next day and so on( this is brilliant if you fancy a nice BIG posh meal at the end of whatever your doing) so if you only spend 16 quid one day you have 32 quid to spend the next!
If your single and live in you can put a leave pass in ever weekend (sat sun) and it does not come off your entitlement ALSO you get back your food charges for those weekends (about 36 quid a month) many people aren't aware of this and its fully legit!!!!
  • That's interesting about the DS, might have to have a posh meal when we move house then, seeing as we are getting DS X 3!
  • And don't forget that you can claim for one alcoholic drink as well.
  • we only just found out about this food reclaim system although the clerk on base is very anal, the plt com has said to fill out leave passes and stick it on jpa, but now it has changed to just putting it into jpa and quoting that it is for a food reclaim, im on the 4 on 4 off rosta, and they gave me a 60 day balance in my leave entitlement, nut what when this runs out i mean are they just going to carry on adding to the leave balance so as i can take them on jpa for food reclaim, this is daft, surely there must be a simpler system, and this is obviously all authorised by unit admin which on ours goes through rsm first???????????????? there has to be something going on behind those closed doors, we should be payd on this base anyway.... anyway thats me done, had my winge
  • Renovatio - its on JPA but i can't remember where exactly.
What I would recommend is talking to a clerk and asking for the form that they use to give CILOCT discounts to single parents. There is a box on that form which you tick to show a disabled dependant. We still haven't had our money back so I would tell your friends that it can take some time. (we are on our 4th month of waiting) - but they are entitled to have it backdated to the date they were registered as disabled, or the date disability allowances are backdated to.
As i was disabled before we got married, my DH is entitled to 7 years worth of rebates, will keep you posted, and if I find the proper regulations will send you a PM
