A question about : cis bricklayer buying a van

Hi, i am buying a van for work and and am looking to offset it against my income. I wAs wondering how much to spend to be the most tax efficient my profits will be around Ј30000 thanks for any advice in advance

Best answers:

  • You should be able to set the full cost of the van against your profits - in the form of the annual investment allowance. There are a few points to consider but assuming you use it for work only and own the van ( as oppose to leasing it) the claim will be valid. The maximum you can claim in a year for all assets is Ј500,000 but I assume you will not spend this much! :-)
So its not a decision that is based on the tax relief.
  • The flipside is, if it's a van not a truck, buy it yourself and claim your 45p then 25p per mile tax relief on your business miles.
You'll need to be doing enough miles and spend as little as possible on the vehicle to make it worth it though.
  • Could I still claim the cost of buying the van then?
