A question about : Child turning 16 And moving from DLA to PIP

Hi,

My son will be 16 in a few weeks and his claim for DLA will be extended until he gets sent the PIP application form.
Just wondered how long they are taking to send out the PIP form after the 16th birthday and how long they take to process once you send the form back ?

Best answers:

  • you should get the form any time now i would guess
but time scales for PIP are taking a long time to even get a medical appointment i know some people who waited 14 months for just a medical appointment then a further 4 months for a decision
  • My son was 16 last April. He is on an indefinite award with both high rate care and high rate mobility. I have been told that he will transfer to PIP in October 2015 at the earliest, as he has an indefinite award. I was also told that those on date limited awards will be transferred six months after their award should have ended. This was early last year, and our area became a PIP area early this year.
I was only told this after becoming a bit stressed as to whether I should order a new mobility car for my son, and of course, things may have changed since.
  • My son turned 16 last March, approx 5 days after his birthday we received the invitation to apply for PIP and by the time the forms arrived, we had a little over 2 weeks to get them back.
We finally have his assessment date now....the day after his 17th birthday.
We have continued to receive payments at the same rates as before and I have been assured this will continue until a decision is finally made.
  • My Son, 16 in June 2014, was asked to reapply for DLA a few weeks after his birthday, even though his award did not run out until June 2015.
  • It can take a quite long time.
