A question about : Central heating problem (Salus RT500RF)

Hi. We have a problem with the heating - it ain't coming on! The hot water is fine though, so presumably it's not the boiler. Here's what happens...

The central heating is controlled by a radio controller (Salus RT500RF - their reputation is apparently... mixed, let's say). It has a timer and also manual override, neither of which work the way they should.

On the wall by the boiler there is a receiver box. It has a red & green light, red indicates power (which is on) and green should indicate that the heating will come on. The green light DOES come on, but the heating doesn't.

The radio controller doesn't seem to be controlling this properly. It will activate the green light but it doesn't turn it back off again, even when you hold the thing right by the receiver.

I've tried changing batteries, changing the frequency on which the transmitter/receiver work, and checked the wiring in the box. None of this has helped, unfortunately.

I'm thinking that it's pretty likely that it's just the Salus gizmo rather than the boiler. Could anyone give some advice though?

many thanks,
Mark

  • If the manual overide does not work then I'm a bit stumped as that should enable the boiler to fire. The next step involves disconnecting the Salus base unit entirely inside the boiler wiring panel and replacing the wire link that is removed when a room stat is installed. If that does not work...its a boiler fault.
Do NOT attempt this yourself unless you are very familiar with these things, and the boiler must be turned off at the mains and the fuse removed before removing the wiring panel cover.
  • You haven't accidently set it to 'holiday' setting or the like have you?
What temperature is the thermostat set to?
  • Will ask OH when he gets home as he figured out how to get boiler, rads, salus gizmo and underfloor heating to all work properly as separate zones when the plumber and spark seemed incapable of doing so
