A question about : Cc disaster

Hello all first post...
I've been somewhat of title=Mada bury the head in sand type as far as money and want to share something here.
I got a letter from Santander saying my credit card was over the balance. In fact 5k worth. I phoned to check they said mistake ignore letter and I was relieved for all of 5secs. He meant they had received my 150amonth min payment. I said I thought it cleared every month I tought I had set it up this way? No he told me that wasn't the case and I have a massive bill. I said do you not phone if over, but this had been negated by the 150 min payment. It is my fault for not facing statements etc I'm just wondering is there any way of getting any of these interests back over the last year or so. It has really knocked me for six as I aim to stay positive...title=Frown

Best answers:

  • Not sure you'll have much success; it isn't Santander's fault that you didn't manage your account properly.
Contact www.stepchange.org - they are very kind and helpful and may be able to assist you in negotiating a repayment plan with Santander.
    Good luck. x
  • hi, so you are saying that you have a Ј5,000 balance that you didn't know about?
  • No chance you'll get it back. Learn from this and move on.
  • Yes, I'm a plonker I know.
The said I knew because of statements which I never open.
I didn't know till I got the letter stating this is not a circular
  • Thank you for your advice guys
  • Why didn't you open the statements ?
  • I'm confused.
If you spent Ј150 each month, then had a Ј150 payment to the card then you would have no balance.
If you spent more than Ј150 a month, then how could you expect a Ј150 payment to be paying it off in full?
  • i am guessing that Chazjaz has been paying the interest alone, but thought he/she was getting the debt down in the process.
