A question about : Cat C car been in accident with uninsured driver

Hi I have a car that was previously written off by insurers. The damage was minor scratch/dent but the insurance company said they need to mark it down as Cat C as the repair would cost more than certain value of car (mercedes and repair costs expensive). I just had the vic test done, then planning on selling the car and was sat at lights and hit from behind. Took pics of both the cars but then the driver done a runner. Checked the details and it transpires there was no insurance on his car at the time of the incident.

What will happen to me if I claim? Will they pay out (I'm fully comp with protected no claims)? Will my premium go up (as last time even though was 100% not my fault it still put an extra Ј200 on my renewal)? Will they still allow me to buy the car back and if so what Cat (A,B or C) will it be written of as?

Some help will be appreciated as given the age of the car I am not sure if its worth the hassle of claiming or better just getting it repaired myself and selling on for what I can get? (Cars value is probably Ј2.5k)

  I've moved this thread to a more appropriate board.
• If a car is a previous cat c, the usual reduction in value is 30% down from market value of a car that hasn't been written off.
  Did you report the incident to the police? if not, do so now.
  You have options of what you do next
  1- claim off your own cover and incur the excess deduction plus any outstanding premiums being offset from the write off value
  2 - Claim against the MIB if the other car is uninsured and the driver is untraced.
  3- Do nothing and repair it yourself, but if you have involved the police, you will have to report it to your insurers "for information purposes"

  I have tried to not involve anyone after finding out the hit and run car had no insurance on it.
  Not sure if it will be worth it as I can get the repair done for Ј200 and sell on for Ј2k rather then going through the hassle and getting the same.
