A question about : Buyers are camped in our garden over Christmas

Hi y'all,

Bit of an off one here, so just wondering what we should do.

Last October we sold our home in Dinas Powys to a couple from Devon. We pushed them for exchange and it is taking its time. We are due to exchange on 4th Jan, hoping to complete the Friday following.

Anyway, we thought we were in a chain, but they turned up at our house (and parked in our drive) in a touring caravan. Turns out they exchanged and completed today on their sale as they hated so much where they lived.

Not sure where to send them, I have said they can park in the drive if they wish.

This was 3pm. I spoke to the solicitor who said he has never been in this position before. The EA was none the wiser and he said it should get them committed to the purchase at least.

At 6pm we were sitting down to tea when they knocked at the door and asked if they can borrow our loo as there is a problem with theirs. The Mrs isnt too happy that we are now their public toilet.

Its Xmas Eve and whilst we were planning a Xmas at home quiet, I am wondering if I should offer them Xmas dinner. I mean, can you cook a Turkey roast in a caravan?

Best answers:

  • They don't have a dog and a peg bag do they?
  • they do have a dog, I think it is one of those Andrex puppies. Quite cute until I saw it cocking its leg up my inflatible rudolph.
Jeepers, nw I come to think of it, 4th Jan is going to be a long time to keep a dog in a caravan.
    PS Pegbag?
  • there are proper caravan sites open over christmas, suggest you lend them your internet to look one up!!!
  • get them to look on UKCS for site open all yr. See HERE
  • I cant tell them to leave surely? I did say, regretfully they could park up. They have even erected one of those little tent things to the side (attached not a campin tent)
  • You could at least open the living room curtains , so they could watch a bit of Christmas eve telly.
  • All joking aside, this is a very weird situation and I would forget its christmas and all that and get them off your property. Its still your property and nothing to do with them until they have atleast exchanged contracts, say Mr. X and his cigarette supposedly slip on your drive and hurts his back, or theres some sort of issue with them exchanging? What they going to do? just camp on your property like travellers! when I have sold houses my solicitor never lets the buyers have any access to do painting, cleaning or whatever they want to do until actual completion! I know its extreme but these days you never know..
  • How... weird lol.
I would definitely find out what their plans are for Xmas day?
  • Well they have gone to bed for the night - they both came in the their evening pee but I didnt ask about tomorrow as i then would have felt the urge to invite them for dinner or a glass of wine if they told me they were cooking a turkey on the engine or something.
Hmm, i hope they arent these sort of people who needs a pee in the night!
  • Have you seen the peg bag yet?
    Feel sure they have one.
  • WTF is this peg bag? is this some word for swinging?
Anyway, I am off to me bed. Happy Christmas all.
  • I think its an insinuation of pikeys.
  • In a previous incarnation the peg bag featured in a post along similar lines. Plot was different but the humour was the same. Excellent start to Christmas!
  • Strangely enough, the buyers were named Jones .... hmm!
