A question about : Butter..... best tasting ?

............

Best answers:

  • For me the best tasting is Lurpak. Solid is better, spreadable is more convenient.
Unfortunately, due to the price I've stopped buying it and moved to supermarket own brand. Which just means I use less of it cos I'm not as keen on it, so works better for the old diet
  • President unsalted (solid) for me
  • It's down to personal taste - there can be no definitive 'best'.
Personally, I like Lurpak and hate both President and Anchor, but that's just what suits me.
As long as no one offers me margarine - that would be just asking for a clip round the ear'ole!
  • Shops own brand eg basics or the next 1 up, either salted to unsalted. Not tried President or Lurpak.
Tried willow which was fine and country life but dont think I thought much of it taste wise.
  • Lurpak spreadable for me
  • Anchor spreadable for me.... But I usually buy any butter that is on offer tbh.
  • We really like Tesco Yum butter at the moment.
  • Discount the fact that it's the Daily Mail, as the article is written by Joanna Blythman, an award winning investigative journalist, specialising in food. She's written five books including The Food We Eat, Bad Food Britain and How to Avoid GM. She writes for The Guardian and is a member of the expert panel of The Grocer.
My mother was one of those kind-hearted housewives refered to in the article, who switched her family from butter to Flora when her husband was diagnosed with high cholesterol. Low fat everything did nothing for him and he died earlier than he should have done from heart disease.
When OH and I first moved in together we couldn't afford butter for all the sandwiches OH seemingly inhaled while working on tools. As soon as he switched to a management job (after going to college evening classes) the first thing we decided to spend money on was switching to butter.
Best butter IMO is President, a lactic butter from Normandy. The organic version isn't available in the UK
OH tolerates spreadable organic Yeo Valley or spreadable organic Lurpak for rolls at work. We often use Netherend Farm organic ghee (clarified butter) to cook delicate-flavoured food with eg fried eggs, button mushrooms.
  • Lurpak is top of my list...one of my favourite things is a nice fresh bread roll with lurpak. Yumm!
  • It's got to be solid, it's got to be salted and its got to be President..... it just tastes SO much better than anything else.
I don't trust spreadables. All that plasticising to make it spread - can't be good for you can it?
  • It has to be spreadable these days - and I particularly like Country Life
  • Solid Lurpak salted on toast.. mm nom nom nom
  • I like Colliers which is made with sea salt but only buy it when there is no offers on other brands. Lurpak is bottom of the list for me, I can think of quite a few times when have chosen to pay more for other brands rather than buying lurpak when it's the only one on offer.
I only buy proper butter (usually salted) I never buy spreadable as it's no better than margarine IMO.
  • Lurpak is best tasting. However at the mo using Lidl's own version of Lurpak called Norpak as it's a quid cheaper.
  • I tried a welsh butter from aldi. It was lovely but they don't seem to have had it again. Whatever is on offer will do for me.
  • Lurpak for me............ but I am now a fan of the butter we bought at the farmers market, only problem is I love it too much and my waistline really cant take it
