A question about : boiler timer stops (loosing time)

Hi

For the past week ive noticed my boiler for GCH is not coming on the time ive set it to come. its a valiant combi boiler ecotech with a mechanical timer ones with pins you move in and out to set time etc.

Ive noticed its loosing about 30-40 mins. as the time is always 30-40mins behind after 24 hours?

its set to come on at 6am, I check in the morning at 6.10am today to see the time on it was 5.40..after fixing the time I checked it again this eve at 6.20 pm and again the time was 5.45...

anyone any ideas whats going on? the timer is ticking fine . its not been switched of as far as im aware and no power cuts or anything

ive reset it at the mains today and will monitor it. what else can I do or check?

Best answers:

  • Not much, if it loses time constantly it's faulty and will need replacing. They are a bit outdated now, if you don't have a room stat I'd look into getting combined wireless room sta/timer
  • They are of indifferent quality and wear out as they are electro mechanical. I think they were/are made by Graslin. I replaced one in a 20 year old Vokera last week and it literally crumbled in my hands from heat degredation. Its not my favourite piece of kit, but its as much as some people can understand how to operate compared to all the electronic digital stuff that predominates now.
