A question about : BMI Baby

Has anybody had any response from BMIbaby with regard to expenses incurred whilst stranded due the volcanic ash storm?

I wrote to BMIbaby as soon as we returned. No response, not even an acknowledgement of my letter. I have sent another letter, still no response!

Does anybody have an e-mail address or some other way of contacting BMIbaby because I cannot find another way of contacting them.

Any help much appreciated.

  • Just spoken to someone at BMIBaby and they said they are currently processing letters received on the 23rd and 24th April, with 5,000 letters still outstanding!! He said to wait another week at least (I posted my letter on the 29th April and because of bank holiday weekend it wasn't received until the 4th May). The service level here is appalling, has anyone had any joy?
  • Thanks for that information. At least they are processing but presumably we do not know at this stage if they are paying out. I could not even speak to anybody!
  • We got our money back from BMI Baby with no problems. We sent them a letter when we returned from our last minute alternate holiday (went to Bournemoth instead of Venice?!) and got the refund back on to our card 35 days later.
Would like to thank BMI for being really helpful and easy to deal with...unlike AXA who are being a complete pain in the backside and dont know what they are doing, grr
  • Good point well made, although it does show they are opening their mail!
  • Hi, I have just spoken to someone at BMI called Roger who said they were now opening mail received on the 25th April. Given that they were opening mail from the 24th 16 days ago, it doesn't bode well for anyone that sent some mail that was received in May (i.e. me).
Has anyone had any joy yet from this laughable situation? I am over a grand out of pocket whilst they play their games.
  • Hi
I managed to speak to someone by phone but they were only call centre staff, presumably told to tell all phone callers the same information. Anyway, they said that they are looking at letters and we should hear approx. 49 days since they received our letter! Bearing in mind I do not suppose this includes weekends and the bank holiday, I do not hope to hear yet. I really believe that the airlines are hoping people will forget about this now. We will not give up, spent too much money and have not put in for expensive reimbursement.
Please, if anybody does hear anything, let this forum know.
  • We were stuck in Nice - got back and tried my insurance company to get some reimbursement - could not get the claim started as we did not have a DATED letter saying that BMI had cancelled the flight. Then I wrote a letter to BMI askingfor my money back - guess what ? No response. Then I sent another letter. Again no response. I have taken them now tothe small claims court through money claim - BMI have now responded - surprise surprise! They have asked for 2 extensions whilst they file their defence....I will keep u postd how I get on!
  • BMIBABY not paying out. I followed all the conditions to claim in the correct manner. Sent a Letter Before Action last week recorded delivery and today I got my first response from BMIbaby stating the ashcloud was beyond their direct control and would not re-imburse any costs. I was stuck with my wife and 3 children in Spain for 5 extra days and claimed for about Ј900, accomodation, food, extended car hire. What advice has anybody got as I presume this will be their response to all who were stranded.
  • Just put in my claim through the small claims court, cost Ј60. Spoke to AUC and they say BMIBaby have a duty of care under the EU regulation to provide food and accomodation. Will see how this avenue progresses.
  • Just received my letter from BMIBaby declining my claim for reimbursement for my family of 5 (Ј1097). My next step is to go back to my travel insurers Natwest as they said they would cover me (Ј250 per person) if I went to the airline first.
However, I will be liable for an excess if I claim through Natwest. If people's small claims start getting paid in the courts will it be worth me chasing BMI for the liability of the excess through the same channel?
  • Not heard from BMIbaby yet. I received a letter from the court stating the claim has been sent to BMIBaby and they have until 2nd August to respond. I'm sure this will be dragged out to the limit by BMIBaby, we will wait and see.
  • Took Bmi to small claims court - they have admitted that hey should have paid and then said that they are still not going to - it is now bein referred to the county courts to be resolved - looks promising - also got the backing of my local MP in court so looks like it may get me somewhere....all this hassle for Ј500...seems so pointless but it is going to give me such a sense of satisfaction when (and if) they have to pay up! Will keep u posted.
  • No they are useless, dismissive and I think very rude. I receive a very blunt letter saying they had no intention of reimbursing my extra costs. Surely they have to be one of the worst - I think they need exposing for this.

  • I also have had a "rejection" letter from BMI. Ours was a complicated claim as we booked & paid for train, coach & ferry tickets when our Weds( 21.4) flight was cancelled. The airports opened on Tues(2.4) night but our Weds flight was still cancelled. BMI would only transfer us to the following Tues 27th - we looked online & saw flights for the next morning for sale at Ј203 each. We could not get through to them so booked the flights as we are teachers and needed to get back and they are now shirking any responsibility ! We have lost a lot of money so will be taking this further.
