A question about : best euro exchange rate?

Hi all,

Does anyone know where is the best place to buy euros at the best rate?

I would prefer to walk into a high street shop and purchase, but ordering online wouldn't be a problem.

I will be looking at buying Ј600 of euros

Thanks in advance

  • You'd be better opening a nationwide Flex account depositing your sterling in before you go on holiday then draw out your euros from an atm (showing the visa sign) as and when you need them on holiday you get an excellent rate way above exchange bureaus on our last trip a few weeks ago we were getting between 1.46-1.48 to the Ј and that was over a 6 week period you can open a flex account online but at some point will have to go into your nearest branch with proof of iD etc .

    HTH
  • Ring all travel agents,
1 - Ring 1st one and ask for there best rate
2 - Ring 2nd one and ask if they will beat it
3 - then keep trying others to see if they will beat it
We did this in June and got 1.45 to the pound.
  • Agree with Kelk72 I use Nationwide excellent infact the best for Currency and going abroad no fee brilliant exchange rates and you could withdraw little and often.
Also good low overdraft interest rate and good interest earnt
  • Try this link. Rate 1.434.
I was sceptical myself as they operate out of places such as Cash Converters, Cheque Centre etc, but when I went in to my local one, they had plenty of Euros to hand, no commission and the exchange rates were the best I could find on my particular high street.
If nothing else it gives a rate to benchmark with.
I would recommend the above as an alternative, they also offer a cash conversion guarantee for Ј3.50 extra. this means any foreign cash you bring back they will convert back to Јs at the same rate that they sold it to you for.
    Today's Euro rate 1.427 to Ј1
  • 1.4297 at Saga, free delivery.
Have used lots of times, arrives the next day via Special Delivery.
  • Someone told me this morning the Post Office is 1.47
  • Apply for a Marks and Spencer card offering 0% to the end of January.
Buy your euro's from them with this and bank your cash and earn some interest. Their rates are near the top in most cases.
Free delivery on all orders over Ј500 so you don't even need to go out.
  • I go with the post office cause they always seem to be the best...IMO...defo was in Jan anyway...haven't looked since.
  • The Travelex you need to book in advance and the money back seems to always have paid off in the end.
  • Looked into this but on their web site it says you need to be with them at least 7 months before they will give you a debit card! Am I missing something?
"How to upgrade to a Nationwide debit card If you would like to upgrade your FlexAccount and have a debit card facility you may be eligible if your account is well conducted.
However, there are circumstances where we would not be able to consider upgrading your account, which include:
  • your existing account has been open for less than 7 months"
