A question about : being harrased by barclaycard

Hi I'm paying Ј1 a month token payment to my creditors and only mbna have acknowledged this. Today I have had 7 calls from Barclaycard, all automated saying I need to pay Јx to bring my acc up to date.

Is there anything I can do about this, as feel I'm being harrased. I had a couple calls on sat nd fri too.

Best answers:

  • Don't think so for calls like that. Just ignore them?
  • just keep to making your allotted payment - if they ring and you answer just give them your case number with paypan and stick to your guns when they ask you to pay more. it took about 3 weeks for my calls to stop from them I gave up answering after I had told them the same thing over and over 4 times
  • As the others have said, they will stop soon.
If you do want to answer them, give them your DMP provider name - I'm assuming here you're on a DMP?? With Payplan or StepChange? - and your DMP number etc.
If you can only afford to make token payments, they are going to have to accept it. But they will shake your cage a wee bit to start with.
We had quite a few calls at the beginning - particularly from Barclays - I found them annoying but my partner found them more stressful. One thing we did, and it's not for everyone, but we turned our answering service on to answer immediately - eg without ringing - and I just checked the messages once a day or so. Knowing that if it was someone who knew me and needed me urgently would try my mobile.
Also, don't be tricked into ever giving them your mobile number! I have always flat out denied having a mobile, and 2.5 years in this has worked.

  • write to them explaining what you are doing and why and aske not to be contacted except in writing. It worked for me. If they continue to contact you then you can report them. ~Good luck
  • Hi,
Two things you can do to stop automated calls :
    (1) Choose to refuse is a service offered by BT, you can barr the numbers of anyone who makes annoying calls to your number, it costs Ј6 a month, works but you can only barr 10 numbers.
    (2) Request a new phone number from BT stating you are recieving unwanted calls on your existing number, BT will do this for free.
And (3) NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PHONE NUMBER in the 1st place.
  • It will stop. I had exactly the same thing, your in the phone loop at the moment and it does take a while to update your situation.
A letter reminding them works wonders though.
  • I have 3 cards with barclaycard i spoke to them to tell them my difficulties and emailed them a copy of my soa. Which states i will give them 10 a month. I then phoned them received a letter of them and i phone monthly to give details of any changes. If i manage to get overtime in i pay a little extra. They have froze all interest and informed i will default.
I emailed Payment.solutions@barclaycard.co.uk . They now never phone me and at one point i was getting 6 calls a day.
