A question about : Barclaycard

I recently applied for the Barclaycard Platinum Simplicity credit card online. My application was referred and 5 days later I received a letter stating I was turned down for the card but that they would like to offer me an alternative product called the Simplicity Barclaycard with an APR of 9.9%.

This is fine and suits my needs so I have posted the letter back today to accept. However I am slightly curious as I cannot find a product of that exact name on the Barclaycard website. Their letter stated that 'although this is not the card you originally applied for, we hope you will be happy with this offer.'

To me this implies it is an enitrely separate product but do they instead just mean it's a platinum simplicity card with a higher APR? I guess I will find out when they send me the card but if anyone can satisfy my curiosity before then I would be grateful.

EDIT: Can this be moved please? Sorry, I posted in the wrong board, meant to be in Credit cards quite obviously but I had two tabs open in the browser and posted in the wrong one!

  • It looks to me that you have the Platinum Simplicity card just with a slightly higher APR. You should still get the white card which says Platinum (I have one)
When you apply it says "7.9% APR Variable", and "the terms of your product may differ from the example"
It is common for other companies to do the same, usually offer a credit limit of Ј1200 and one APR figure. When your acceptance offer arrives the limit and APR vary.
Apart from the excellant APR with this card just be aware that the minimum payments are slightly higher than most at 2.25%
  • What was the credit limit you were offered?
When you receive the card let us know if says Platinum Simplicity on the card or whether it actually is a different card.
  • Thanks, that makes sense. Wasn't sure if I would qualify for the card or not. I was applying to replace a high interest credit card I currently have, now my credit rating has improved a bit I thought it would make sense to have a lower rate card if I could. I've no need to borrow (and no debt atm) but I wanted something with a low rate available for emergencies.
I posted the credit agreement yesterday so I don't expect to get the card until late next week at the earliest. I will report back with what I get. I don't yet know the credit limit. The T&C's say 'we will tell you your credit limit when you first receive your Barclaycard' so I will have to wait until then.
  • For anyone interested, the card I got is a Platinum Simplicity with Ј3000 credit limit
