A question about : Baby seat with ISOFIX

Bought a BeSafe car seat. Then found out the base is an extra Ј120.

Trouble is my car has got ISOFIX but wifes hasnt. And I dont think the ISOFIX base will fit in a non-isofix car.

Worse still because my car (galaxy) has got underfloor storage compartment you can't use an isofix base with a support leg.

Anyone know of any decent car seat that comes with a base that will fit both isofix and non-isofix and doesnt need a support leg?

Does such a thing even exist?

Best answers:

  • I think they all have support legs, some bases will fit with a seat belt instead of ISOFIX, best to check on the website to see if this one will, or phone their helpline.
Will the seat fit with just a seat belt?
  • Put the car seat in the middle seat, that way you avoid the underfloor storage
  • Hi, we have a maxi cosi pebble, and this fits in a isofix base (in my car) and without it (belted) in DH's car which doesnt have the isofix in the car.
    HTH Gops x
ETA, the maxicosi isofix base does have the supporting leg though! You could just not use the isofix and just belt it in?
  • Been in touch with BeSafe - you can use with a storage compartment as long as you fill it up with packing. Seems fair enough.
BUT, you can't use the base without isofix and they dont do a non-isofix belt in base. Completely nuts because I can only use in one car now! (Unless I belt the seat in).
To be honest, this might lead to me returning the seat for one that does a non-isofix base.
    Maxi Cosi pebble someone mentioned?
(One thing though - our pram is on its way too and we had to buy an adaptor so the Be Safe seat fits. I guess if we get a different seat now we're going to need a different adaptor).
Must admit not impressed with mothercare. We told them all this and they just said yeh yeh. Obviously, keen to sell us the expensive Be Safe car seat!
  • There are no Group 0 ISOFIX bases that use top tether points - they all use foot props. There are plenty of Group 1 seats using top tether instead of a foot prop.
For Group 0, your choice is ISOFIX+foot prop or belted.
You can either fill the storage compartments with something solid or take off the cover and extend the leg to the base of the compartment. Some manufacturers make inserts for their compartments. The leg needs to stand on something that is solid and won't break in a crash - a flimsy lid isn't good enough.
  • Maxi Cosi do 2 bases, one for ISOFIX and one for belted applications .When we were shopping for ours I could not see any dual application bases.... So we ended up with the ISOFIX base for our Pebble for the Micra (new generation Micra seat belts are too short), and for the Almera we will just belt it in however we have decided that our little one will be carried mostly in the Micra and "only as a last resort" carried in the Almera
  • Don't buy car seats from Mothercare - they're idiots.
I didn't think money was a problem for you....?

  • It all depends on the person serving you at the end of the day. We had car seats trial fitted into ours and they could not be more helpful, however I had my credit card out ready to buy a whole bunch of stuff and 1 of them turned around and said don't bother just yet, and started to push their "buy now, pay over x months, deliver x date" and kept going on and on, in the end I just turned around and walked out and bought my stuff elsewhere and saved myself a small fortune!
  • Britax do a belted base too:-
