A question about : ASUS Tablet Ј99.99 + Ј50 Cashback + 2 Year Guarantee Included By John Lewis

Asus are currently offering up to Ј50 cashback across a variety of their tablet range when you trade in your old tablet. The offer is available until 15 March 2015 and includes purchases made from 19 January 2015.

Qualifying Criteria (no referral): https://asuspromotions.com/uk/en/pag...eup/qualifying

I came across this tablet on the John Lewis website for which you can get Ј50 cash back offer (no referral).

PC World sell the same tablet for the same price, but JL provide a 2 Year Guarantee in their price!

Here is a review of the tablet by PC Advisor (no referral). It should be noted that this tablet is a PC Advisor Recommended product.

You may even have a play around of the tablet in JL / PC World before deciding if you want to purchase.

Hope it helps!

  • Looks good! I've got a bit of a tatty Nexus 7 2012 that I've replaced the screen on that would be just great to get a new shiny tablet for, for Ј50...
  • Absolutely! Couldn't think of a better bargain. Only problem I have is that I don't own a tablet!
  • IIRC the citeria is "7" tablet ..." ............
    so a 7" Paracetamol?
    Rather you than me.
  • Problem is the MeMo is a pretty inferior tablet compared to Nexus 7. Resolution and pixel density are higher on Nexus (nicer picture which is kinda vital on a tablet and esp noticeable when watching HD stuff - even Youtube has HD now)
the Nexus has Gorilla glass so super resistant to scratches ( I can attest to this)
One thing about the MeMo though - SD card storage. Hence why it has a small amount of onboard storage, I guess.
  • I'm comparing it to the 2012 one, so same resolution, but faster, added camera etc. Do NOT trade in a 2013 model Nexus 7 for one of these - definitely a downgrade. And you could sell it for more than the Ј50 trade in value anyway.
  • OK I bought it last night, I think I might suffer from a gadget addiction! Nice little tablet and if you had a 2012 Nexus, it'll feel very familiar. Very fast too and Asus have applied a 'light' skin over standard Android which doesn't get in the way. I knew it had an Intel processor, but didn't realise it was an x86 one. I'll let you know about the claim process and when I get my cashback.
  • Mr_Singleton - You're right, I think it would be now. I repaired a few of them early last year (yes, that's how fast they've come down!) with cracked screens and sold them again. But I also experimented with just replacing the touchscreen glass, which is usually the only part broken. You could get the glass for about Ј15, or the screen/glass for about Ј36. So I found on the internet that people were actually able to get the broken glass off the screen, and put a new glass on. That's what I did on this Nexus. Useful learning experience, but not really great condition to re-sell, and now, as you say, they're not worth doing. I don't know if the component prices have come down at all, but it's still a useful little tablet and easy peasy to repair.
  • Update - I registered my tablet for the scheme on Friday, and got a text and email the same day saying I had been accepted - you need the model number and serial number of your new Asus, and the make and model of the tablet you're trading in. It also confirmed that you only need to send away the tablet itself, no accessories at all.
A box or something is on its way to me to put the old tablet in. I'll keep updating.
  • My Nexus 7 was ok before they updated the system and now i only use it to read my books on it. I have reset it,taken off most of the apps and its still unusable apart from reading books. So i pass on this offer.
  • Yep, spend Ј50 on an upgrade to something that looks similar, but is far faster and adds a camera. Why would you pass on the offer to get rid of the bad tablet for a good one?! That's what I'm doing. I don't think you'll get Ј50 for a bare Nexus 7, and you can keep the charger etc, even any cases and re-use them if you buy the 7 inch MeMo Pad.
A box was delivered to my house recorded delivery (I wasn't in) and I'll be posting my Nexus 7 back in it wiped and fully charged (one stipulation is that the tablet 'must turn on' so I don't want to risk a flat battery) tomorrow.
