A question about : Always check your accounts

I'm not sure if I've posted in the right section but wanted to post a little reminder to check accounts.

I joined Lloyds a few months ago to keep my money separate from my spending money. It was going to be for my spending money but the guy said I had to have one direct debit going through that account to open an account, so I gave my other bank card for a different bank and said I will transfer the internet direct debit from there to Lloyds.

I only have 2 direct debits going through that bank. One was for internet, the other was not a proper scheduled direct debit - it was basically a link to my paypal account.

Now I also have a paypal card, as they sent me one which I guess is linked to my original bank account.

A few days after joining Lloyds, I got an email from paypal saying my new direct debit/account link has been set up - to the Lloyds bank. I'm not sure why, as I never once inputted my Lloyds details onto paypal, but I assumed the guy at Lloyds not only switched my Internet direct debit, but anything else linked to that account. I have no idea how he can do that.

Today I got a letter saying I am Ј60 overdrawn from Lloyds. Lloyds is only used for internet so I assumed I was charged extra, but I wasn't. I had a paypal transaction with a shopping website, and instead of taking it from my primary bank account, it took it from the Lloyds. I should have removed Lloyds the day I got the notification from paypal.

So, I have to now pay Ј6 for overdrawing at Lloyds.

I didn't give permission tot he Lloyds guy to set up all my direct debits with their bank, but I guess Lloyds won't have a clue how that is even possible if I go to tell them. In other words, if in doubt, do fix it asap as every penny counts.
